Pub News: March 2008
- Belvoir Castle, 32-33 Victoria Buildings, Lower Bristol Road, Bath

This pub, which is Grade II listed, is under threat of closure. Planning permission has been sought by the owners to convert it into three residential units. The branch is intent on fighting this closure as we believe that, in the right hands, this building has the potential to flourish as a pub. The nearby Royal Oak and Hop Pole serve as examples of what can be done. The deadline for objections is Tuesday 1 April. Objections should be made to the planning department of Bath & Northeast Somerset Council quoting planning references 08/00732/FUL in the case of the full planning permission and 08/00735/LBA in the case for the proposed listed building alterations. I have already sent details about this by e-mail to everyone on my circulation list.

It is with great sadness that I have to report the recent sudden death of the new landlord Barry Thomas. Mr Thomas, who also ran the Robin Hood on St Michael’s Hill in Bristol, took over the Olde Farmhouse shortly before Christmas. He was beginning to revive the fortunes of the pub, which had been closed for several months before hand, by bringing to it a very strong emphasis on live music. The pub is, we believe, currently closed.
